Managing Large Vertical Panels
Handling the installation of a 20-foot fireplace in Seattle presented unique challenges. The sheer height and scale of the panels required precision planning and execution. The design incorporated sweeping charcoal movement with warm brass tones, demanding careful alignment to enhance the visual flow across such a large surface. Additionally, the existing vertical wood slats and glass stair railings needed to be seamlessly integrated into the design to maintain architectural coherence.
The weight and size of the panels necessitated meticulous handling during transport and installation. Each piece, crafted from 2 cm Cambria Remington Brass™ quartz, required careful maneuvering to avoid damage and ensure perfect fitment. The recessed perimeter reveals and mitered edge returns added complexity, demanding exact precision in fabrication and installation.
Lastly, coordinating with other trades on-site, such as those handling wood and glass installations, was essential. Our team had to ensure that the quartz installation aligned perfectly with the pre-existing structural elements while also planning for future adjustments.
Precision Templating and Cutting
Using the STONEEX digital laser scan, we captured precise measurements of the fireplace area, ensuring every panel would fit flawlessly. This advanced templating method was crucial given the 20-foot height, providing a digital blueprint for our fabrication process.
Our in-house CNC fabrication facility played a pivotal role in cutting each piece with exact precision. The CNC machinery allowed us to execute the mitered edge returns and recessed perimeter reveals, giving the panels depth and a floating appearance. This process was crucial to achieving the design intent of a seamless and striking fireplace that complements the room's overall aesthetics.
We planned the seams to align perfectly with the vertical wood slats, a critical factor for maintaining the room's architectural coherence.
