Sintered Stone at a Glance
Sintered stone — the next generation of engineered surfaces
Sintered stone emerged in the early 2010s countertop category nearly four decades ago — combining natural quartz with advanced manufacturing to deliver surfaces that never need sealing and last a lifetime.
Manufactured by leading European brands (Dekton, Lapitec, Neolith, Laminam), Sintered Stone has grown into one of the world’s most recognized quartz surface brands. Their engineered quartz is made primarily from natural quartz — one of the hardest minerals on earth — combined with pigments and polymer resins under intense vibro-compression and kiln curing. The result is a non-porous, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant surface backed by a lifetime residential warranty.
With 200+ varieties spanning the Dekton, Lapitec, Neolith, Laminam, and Stratus collections, Sintered stone offers everything from full-body marble lookalikes to bold concrete and metallic finishes to fire-rated commercial surfaces. The ICON collection is their latest innovation — a crystalline silica-free surface made with approximately 85% recycled content. At Absolute GM we fabricate every sintered stone slab in our own Kirkland shop using STONEEX digital templating and CNC equipment — ensuring sub-millimeter accuracy from template to installation.

Sintered Stone countertops — FAQ
Sintered stone countertops in Seattle range from $90 to $180 per square foot installed. Mid-tier brands like Stratus and Florim Ultra run $90–$140/sq ft. Premium European brands — Dekton, Lapitec, Neolith, Laminam — fall in the $95–$180 range. Final pricing depends on slab thickness, edge profile, cutouts, and whether installation is indoor or outdoor (outdoor installs often require additional waterproofing).
Both are engineered ceramic-style surfaces, but sintered stone is generally denser and more heat-resistant. Porcelain is fired clay + minerals, often with a printed surface design and a glaze. Sintered stone is composed entirely of natural minerals fused (sintered) at higher temperatures with full-body color throughout the slab — meaning the design is consistent on edges and underneath, not just on top. Sintered stone is typically more durable in extreme conditions (outdoor, heavy commercial, fire-rated installations).
It depends on use. Dekton (Cosentino) is the most established, with the widest catalog and outdoor-warranty leadership. Lapitec is the only true 100% sintered stone (no glaze, full-body color, fire-rated). Neolith excels in book-matched marble looks and large-format slabs. Laminam is the architecture/cladding choice. Stratus is excellent value. We can match brand to project at our Kirkland showroom.
Yes — sintered stone is one of the most heat-resistant surfaces available, rated up to ~1700°F (Lapitec) or ~1100°F (Dekton/Neolith). It handles direct contact with hot pans and pots, and is rated for outdoor BBQ surrounds, pizza ovens, and fire-rated commercial installations. Lapitec specifically is fire-rated for restaurant kitchens and commercial fire applications.
Yes — sintered stone is one of the most outdoor-capable surfaces in the Pacific Northwest. It’s UV-stable (won’t fade), freeze-thaw resistant, non-absorbent (water won’t penetrate), and warranted for outdoor use by all major brands. AbsoluteGM has installed sintered stone outdoors throughout Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Mercer Island for outdoor kitchens, fire pits, BBQ surrounds, and pool decking.
No — sintered stone is completely non-porous (zero water absorption) and never needs sealing. Daily care is just soap and water. It resists stains, etching, scratching, heat, UV, freeze-thaw, and bacteria. The only care recommendation: avoid abrasive cleaners on polished finishes to preserve the surface gloss. Matte and textured finishes are essentially maintenance-free.
