Quartzite at a Glance
Quartzite — natural stone with marble looks and granite strength
Quartzite has been quarried for centuries — used in everything from castles to modern kitchens. The countertop category nearly four decades ago — combining natural quartz with advanced manufacturing to deliver surfaces that never need sealing and last a lifetime.
Quartzite quarries operate primarily in Brazil, India, and Italy. Quartzite has grown into one of the world’s most recognized quartz surface brands. Their engineered quartz is made primarily from natural quartz — one of the hardest minerals on earth — combined with pigments and polymer resins under intense vibro-compression and kiln curing. The result is a non-porous, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant surface backed by a lifetime residential warranty.
With 200+ spanning the Taj Mahal, Macaubas Fantasy, Super White, Sea Pearl, Patagonia, and new natural-stone collections, Quartzite offers everything from soft whites and dramatic marble looks to bold blues, golds, and earthy darks. The ICON collection is their latest innovation — a crystalline silica-free surface made with approximately 85% recycled content. At Absolute GM we fabricate every quartzite slab in our own Kirkland shop using STONEEX digital templating and CNC equipment — ensuring sub-millimeter accuracy from template to installation.

Quartzite is a 100% natural metamorphic stone formed from sandstone under intense heat and pressure deep in the earth — no resins, no manufacturing process, just pure stone. Engineered quartz, by contrast, is a man-made surface combining natural quartz crystals (~90–94%) with polymer resins. The practical differences: quartzite has dramatic, one-of-a-kind veining (similar to marble), is harder than granite (Mohs 7–8), and is heat-resistant up to ~1100°F. Engineered quartz is more uniform, never needs sealing, and costs less. Quartzite is the natural option when you want marble looks with stronger durability.
Yes — quartzite is a natural stone with some porosity, so it should be sealed once or twice a year. AbsoluteGM seals every quartzite installation with a 15-year impregnating sealer at no extra cost as part of our standard install. Maintenance is straightforward: just reapply periodically with any quality stone sealer (15–20 minutes for an average kitchen). Daily care is simple soap and water. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, and citrus left sitting on the surface.
Quartzite is excellent for kitchens — it’s one of the most durable countertop surfaces available. It’s harder than granite (Mohs 7–8 vs. 6–7 for granite), heat-resistant up to ~1100°F (you can place hot pans directly on it without trivets), and resistant to scratching, etching, and staining when properly sealed. Many Seattle homeowners specifically choose quartzite over marble for kitchens because it delivers similar marble-like aesthetics without marble’s vulnerability to acid etching and scratching.
Top-selling quartzites at our Kirkland showroom: Taj Mahal (warm beige with subtle veining), Super White (bright white with gray drift), Sea Pearl (gray-green with movement), Macaubas Fantasy (cool whites with dramatic blue/gold veining), White Macaubas (soft whites), Fantasy Brown (warm browns and grays), and Patagonia (bold dark with lightning-strike veining). Each slab is unique — we encourage clients to view actual slabs at our Kirkland showroom or supplier yards before fabrication.
Yes — quartzite handles outdoor use well in the PNW. It’s naturally UV-stable (won’t fade in sun), freeze-thaw resistant, and structurally sound for outdoor kitchens, BBQ surrounds, fire pit surrounds, and patios. For outdoor installs, AbsoluteGM recommends sealing more frequently (twice yearly) due to rain exposure and uses outdoor-rated stone sealer. Lighter varieties may show water spotting; darker quartzites handle outdoor exposure best. We’ve installed quartzite outdoors throughout Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Mercer Island.
