The challenge

A 10-foot run with no room for error

The client came to us with a specific vision: a full-width island in Neolith Calacatta with a mitered waterfall on both ends. The space was a 10-foot run, which required a seam — but the client had seen badly executed seams before and made clear that a visible joint would be a problem.

The second challenge was the TopZero sink integration. The flush-mount sink requires precise routing of the countertop underside to create the zero-radius drain effect. It’s not difficult when you have CNC control and the right tooling — but it has no room for approximation.

The timeline was 12 days from template to installed. The clients had a renovation crew coming in directly after us, so the window was fixed.

Our approach

Digital template, seam planned before cutting

We templated the space with the STONEEX laser system. Before fabrication started, we plotted the slab layout on screen with the client present — showing exactly where the seam would fall relative to the pendant lights above and the veining pattern across the Neolith slab. The client approved the layout and the vein orientation.

The waterfall joins were CNC-cut to 45° and then hand-finished on the miter faces before assembly. The seam in the top surface was set with colour-matched epoxy and polished to the same finish level as the rest of the surface — it disappears under the pendant light position we planned.

1
STONEEX digital template
Laser scan of the full kitchen space. Out-of-square walls captured exactly — the left wall was 3.5mm off parallel, which would have caused a gap in a traditional paper template.
2
Slab layout approval
Client came to the Kirkland shop to see the Neolith slab and approve where the pieces would be cut. Seam and vein direction confirmed before any cutting began.
3
CNC fabrication + waterfall joins
Island top, two waterfall panels, and perimeter countertops all cut in the same day. Waterfall 45° joins hand-finished over two additional days.
4
Installation in one day
Full installation — island, perimeter, waterfall assembly, TopZero sink set, LED strip install, and seam finishing — completed in 6 hours by our crew.

“We’d seen photos of waterfall islands but weren’t sure we trusted the seam. Vlad’s team walked us through exactly where it would fall and what it would look like. On install day it was exactly as described — we had to look twice to find it.”

The result

Completed on time, seam invisible in place

Installation was completed on day 12 as committed — within the client’s contractor window. The waterfall joins are clean, the seam is set under a pendant light position as planned, and the TopZero sink sits flush with zero visible lip.

The LED strip under the island base was the client’s addition late in the project. We routed a channel into the cabinet top during fabrication to keep the strip hidden and the light clean. It’s become one of the most-photographed details in the finished space.
